Recap: UCF vs. South Florida

Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Shemiye McLendon connected on a free throw with 0.8 seconds remaining as the South Florida Bulls narrowly defeated the UCF Knights in overtime, 79-78, in an American Athletic Conference contest at CFE Arena.

Victor Rudd posted a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulls (12-11, 3-7 AAC), who have won two of their last three. Martino Brock and Chris Perry both scored in double figures with 17 and 10 points respectively, while McLendon had six assists.

Isaiah Sykes tallied a double-double with 24 points and 12 boards as the Knights (9-11, 1-8) lost their seventh straight. Matt Williams added 12 points as Kasey Wilson chipped in 11.

USF shot 48.5 percent from the field in the first period as it took a slim 37-36 lead into the half. UCF connected on 56 percent of its field goal tries, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range, but attempted eight fewer shots overall in the frame.

After a back-and-forth second frame, Rudd made a layup with nine seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 70-70. After Calvin Newell missed a jumper for the Knights in the waning moments the game went to overtime.

The Bulls opened the extra stanza on an 8-2 run, with all eight points scored by Rudd, to put them up six with 1:49 on the clock. UCF responded by scoring six unanswered points to tie it back up with 57 seconds remaining. After a series of missed shots, McLendon made one-of-two at the free-throw line to give USF a one point lead.

USF did a better job on the glass by outrebounding the Knights 41-32.
