Recap: Xavier vs. Morehead State

Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Semaj Christon led the way with 20 points for the Xavier Musketeers in their 79-56 victory over the Morehead State Eagles at the Cintas Center.

Xavier (3-0) had three players score in double digits en-route to its third-straight victory. Christon shot 10-of-13 from the field on the night. Jalen Reynolds had 11 points and Isaiah Philmore chipped in 10. Matt Stainbrook brought down 10 boards for the Musketeers.

Morehead State (2-1) was paced by Chad Posthumus and his 12 points and 12 rebounds. Luka Pajkovic added 11 points.

The Eagle's poor shooting in the first half allowed Xavier to take a 38-23 lead into the break. Morehead State shot 18.5 percent from the field and 2- of-11 from beyond the arc. The Musketeers weren't much better from 3-point range (1-of-7) but they were able to make 46.4 percent of their shots from the field overall.

The intermission gave both teams a boost.Xavier had a 60.0 percent field goal percentage and went 10-of-11 from the charity stripe. Morehead State improved to 42.9 percent from the field in the second half while going 2-of-7 from behind the three point line, but it was not nearly enough.

Although both teams were even in rebounds with 34 for each team, Xavier dominated the inside with a 50-16 scoring advantage in the paint.
