Recap: Towson vs. Temple

Towson, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Jerrelle Benimon dropped a career-high 32 points and sank two free throws in the final seconds to lift the Towson Tigers to a 75-69 win over the Temple Owls on Thursday.

Benimon, the reigning CAA Player of the Year, shot 11-of-24 from the field and corralled 10 rebounds to help Towson (3-0) stay unbeaten on the year. Marcus Damas added 16 points and 10 boards in the triumph.

Anthony Lee paced Temple (1-2) with 20 points and came up one rebound shy of his third straight double-double to start the season. Will Cummings contributed 18 points to go with five rebounds and five assists, and Quenton DeCosey scored 12 points.

Temple finished the first half on an 11-5 run and led 36-31 at intermission. The Owls made 15-of-29 field goals attempts in the opening 20 minutes while holding Towson to just 11-for-35 shooting from the floor.

A three-point play from Timajh Parker-Rivera just before the final media timeout put Towson in front, 62-60. The Tigers scored the next four points and shot 6-for-6 from the stripe in the final 21 seconds to secure the win. The hosts converted 15-of-20 tries at the charity stripe in the second stanza to overcome the halftime deficit. Temple cooled off to hit on just 38.5 percent of its field goal tries after the intermission.

Towson held a 47-37 edge in the rebounding battle in the contest, which improved it to 1-3 all-time versus Temple.
