Recap: Valparaiso vs. UCF

Valparaiso, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Alec Peters scored 16 points, leading five players in double figures, as the Valparaiso Crusaders captured an 85-70 win over the UCF Knights in non-conference play at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

Jordan Coleman came off the bench to add 15 points for the Crusaders (4-3), Bobby Capobianco contributed 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots, followed by LaVonte Dority and Lexus Williams with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Knights (3-2) were led by Calvin Newell who tallied 16 points, but he shot only 4-of-15 from the floor. Before fouling out Kasey Wilson contributed 15 points, while Tristan Spurlock tacked on 10 points and seven rebounds.

Valpo scored the first points of the night and never looked back, shooting 55.6 percent from the field in the first half in order to claim a 41-33 advantage at the break.

In the second half the Crusaders continued to have the hot hand, hitting on 52.4 percent from the floor, not to mention a near-perfect 20-of-22 at the free-throw line in order to pull off the 15-point win.

The hosts held UCF to 40.7 percent shooting from the floor on the night and also outscored the Knights at the charity stripe, 27-13.
