Recap: Brown vs. Rhode Island

Providence, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - Xavier Munford tallied 25 points as the Rhode Island Rams knocked off the Brown Bears, 75-66, at Pizzitola Sports Center.

Munford shot 8-of-16 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line for the Rams (8-6). E.C. Matthews contributed 21 points on 7-of-12 from the floor.

Sean McGonagill led the Bears (6-6) with 24 points, shooting 9-of-18 from the field. Norman Hobbie and Tavon Blackman added 13 and 11 points, respectively. Rafael Maia grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Rams were the stronger offensive threat in the opening half, shooting 46.7 percent from the field to the Bears' 36 percent. The Rams also sank a perfect 10-of-10 from the line, with the Bears hitting just 5-of-10. At halftime, the score was 43-28 in favor of Rhode Island.

Brown improved in the game's latter half to shoot 42.9 percent from the floor, including seven 3-pointers. The Rams, however, kept pace, shooting 40.7 percent from the floor and sinking 9-of-12 at the line to hold on for the victory. The Rhode Island lead was as large as 20 down the stretch.

The Bears made only 13-of-24 free throw attempts and couldn't overcome the first half deficit. The Rams outscored the Bears 23-16 in points off turnovers.
