Recap: Yale vs. Brown

New Haven, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Sears had 20 points as the Yale Bulldogs beat the Brown Bears, 74-67, in an Ivy League matchup at Lee Amphitheater.

Armani Cotton added 19 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (7-8, 1-0 Ivy), as they won their third straight game. Javier Duren tallied 16 points and five steals, while Brandon Sherrod tallied 10 points off the bench.

Sean McGonagill led the Bears (8-7, 0-1) with 17 points and six assists, while Rafael Maia registered a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out. Norman Hobbie logged 14 points, hitting 4-of-8 beyond the arc as a reserve.

Yale made just 32.1 percent of its field goal tries in the first half but made 10-of-14 at the free-throw line as it held a 33-31 lead at intermission. Brown connected on 44.4 percent of its shots from the floor and turned the ball over 13 times.

The Bulldogs improved in the second stanza by making 47.8 percent of their shots from the field, with Sears scoring 14 of his points in the period. With 2:21 on the clock Yale went on an 8-2 run to create some room and close out the game.

The Bears turned the ball over 19 times and the Bulldogs capitalized by scoring 21 points off those miscues.
