Recap: Portland vs. Columbia

Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Thomas Van Der Mars scored a game-high 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor, as the Portland Pilots captured a 69-52 win over the Columbia Lions as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the Chiles Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Pilots (3-2) were Kevin Bailey and Ryan Nicholas with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Lions (2-3) had three players score in double figures as Luke Petrasek, Maodo Lo and Jeff Coby with 10 points apiece in the losing cause.

Portland scored the first points of the night and never looked back, hitting on 53.8 percent from the floor in the first half in order to claim a 35-27 edge at the break. Columbia tallied a mere seven field goals through the first 20 minutes of action.

In the second half the Lions made even fewer field goals (six), as they stumbled to the 17-point road loss.

The Pilots, who shot better than 49 percent from the field, turned the ball over just six times on the night.
