Recap: Arizona State vs. Oregon
Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan Bachynski led the way with a career- high 26 points, to go along with nine rebounds and a whopping nine blocked shots, as the Arizona State Sun Devils edged the Oregon Ducks, 74-72, in a Pac-12 Conference battle at Wells Fargo Arena.
For the Sun Devils (18-6, 7-4 Pac-12), winners of five of their last six, Shaquielle McKissic added 15 points, Jermaine Marshall scored 12 and Jahii Carson filled the stat sheet with 11 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.
Joseph Young scored a game-high 29 points, all in the second half, for the Ducks (15-8, 3-8), while Mark Moser chipped in with 14 points.
ASU was red-hot from the field to start the game, shooting 68.2 percent, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range in the first half, as the Sun Devils took a sizable lead at intermission, 43-23. Oregon struggled mightily in the opening period, hitting on a woeful 25 percent of its field goals and missing all but one of 13 tries from beyond the arc.
After halftime, it was the ASU's turn to have difficulty shooting the ball, as the Sun Devils hit on a meager 25 percent, missing all eight 3-pointers in the process. Seeking to mount a comeback, Oregon converted 48.6 percent from the field after the break and knocked down 5-of-11 on the perimeter.
Trailing by 21, 50-29, with under 15 minutes to play, the Ducks went on a 32-9 run to take a two-point lead, 61-59, with 5:18 remaining. With the game knotted at 68-68 with under two minutes to play, the Sun Devils took the lead for good on a free throw by Carson. The Ducks had a chance to send the game to overtime, but Bachynski blocked Young's reverse layup at the buzzer to seal the victory.
ASU had a considerable advantage at the free-throw line, outscoring Oregon 29-14, although the Ducks did take advantage of the Sun Devils's miscues, converting 15 turnovers into 21 points, while committing just seven turnovers of their own.
Bachynski entered the weekend ranked first in the nation in blocks with 4.26 per contest.Game Notes
