Recap: UC Santa Barbara vs. California

Santa Barbara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Alan Williams registered a double- double with 24 points and 12 rebounds as the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara defeated the California Golden Bears, 72-65, in non-conference action at the Thunderdome.

Also scoring in double figures for the Gauchos (4-3) were Taran Brown and Kyle Boswell with 14 and 10 points, respectively, while Zalmico Harmon chipped in with 10 assists for the hosts.

The Golden Bears (6-3), losers of three of the last four after opening the campaign with five straight wins, were led by Jordan Mathews who dropped in 22 points off the bench. Starter Justin Cobbs accounted for 13 points and eight assists, but he shot only 3-of-14 from the floor, while David Kravish pitched in with 12 points and seven boards before fouling out. Coming up a point shy of a double-double was Richard Solomon as he cleared 11 rebounds.

It was a slow moving game in the first half, but even with just 10-of-27 (.370) shooting from the floor in the frame California was able to move out to a 28-27 advantage at the break.

Unfortunately for the Golden Bears, their accuracy dipped to only 35.3 percent over the final 20 minutes, compared to 59.3 percent for UCSB as the hosts took over and captured the seven-point victory.

The visitors made good on only 36.1 percent from the floor on the night, including 7-of-23 (.304) beyond the arc.

The win was the first-ever for UCSB in 10 meetings with the Golden Bears.
