Recap: Colorado vs. UCLA

Boulder, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Norman Powell poured in a team-high 19 points to lead No. 25 UCLA to a 69-56 win over 21st-ranked Colorado at Coors Events Center.

Jordan Adams added 14 points and 13 rebounds and David Wear finished with 11 points and seven boards for the Bruins (14-3, 3-1 Pac-12), winners in five of their last six games. UCLA had played in just one other true road game entering the contest, an 80-71 setback at Missouri on Dec. 7.

The Buffaloes (14-4, 3-2) were without the services of their top player Spencer Dinwiddie, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Sunday's loss at Washington. Dinwiddie was leading the team in scoring (14.7 ppg), assists (3.8 apg) and minutes played (31.1 mpg) and was also one of Colorado's top defenders.

Askia Booker scored 21 points and Josh Scott had 19 points and nine rebounds for Colorado, losers in two straight. Seven other players that appeared in the contest for the Buffs combined for just 16 points.

"We didn't lose this game tonight because Spencer Dinwiddie and Tre'Shaun Fletcher didn't play," said Colorado coach Tad Boyle. "We lost this game tonight because we didn't play well enough tonight to beat UCLA and it was a winnable game, we just didn't do what we needed to do."

Fletcher also missed the game with an ACL tear.

Booker's 3-pointer 4:27 into the game gave Colorado its last lead at 9-8. The Bruins countered with an 12-4 burst to make it 20-13, but the Buffs scored seven straight to knot things up at 20-20.

Powell's layup at the 6:16 mark of the first half put UCLA up 28-24 and the visitors took a 36-29 edge into the break.

Scott made it a one possession game, 40-37, after splitting a pair of free throws just under four minutes into the second half and the Buffs remained within striking distance until an Adams' layup ignited a 10-2 burst that essentially put the game out of reach.

The Buffs didn't get closer than eight the rest of the way.

"We talked about poise all week leading into this because I knew this would be a good environment, we knew it was a white out, we knew they've had good crowds all year and I thought we showed a lot of poise once we got that double-figure lead," said UCLA coach Steve Alford. "They would get it to seven or eight on maybe a two basket run we got it back up to double figures. I'm proud of the team for being able to do that."

Game Notes

UCLA outscored Colorado 34-18 in the paint ... UCLA scored 20 points off 17 Colorado turnovers ... The Buffs' 56 points was the teams' the third-lowest scoring output of the season ... Colorado has dropped seven of the eight all- time meetings with UCLA.

2014-15 San Jose Sharks Preview

In another move that bucks tradition, the Sharks completely revamped their on- ice leadership structure not by selecting new players to wear the precious singular letters on their uniforms, but by stripping the captaincy from Joe Thornton, removing the alternate tag from Patrick Marleau and leaving the other "A" vacant after Dan Boyle signed as a free agent with the Rangers.
