Recap: Rider vs. Penn

Lawrenceville, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Daniel Stewart registered a double- double with 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Broncs overcame a 14-point deficit in the second half to defeat the Penn Quakers, 89-88, in a non- conference tilt at Alumni Gym.

Anthony Myles provided a spark off the bench for the Broncs (6-5) with 16 points and four assists. Kahlil Thomas added 14 points and six rebounds while Tommy Pereira tallied 12 points. Zedric Sadler scored 10 points and handed out five assists in the victory.

Miles Cartwright contributed 20 points, nine assists and six rebounds in the losing effort for Penn (2-8) as it suffered its fifth loss in a row. Julian Harrell finished with a game-high 23 points and Fran Dougherty chipped in 18 points.

The Quakers took control of the contest in the first half as Cartwright knocked down a 3-point attempt to give them a 32-20 lead with 5:52 left before the break. Rider connected on 6-of-13 tries from beyond the arc in the opening period and managed to storm back to go into the intermission on top, 37-36.

Penn managed to jump out to an even greater lead after halftime as Dougherty made a layup to put it ahead, 79-65, with just over seven minutes left in regulation. The Broncs produced another late rally and Myles sank a shot from 3-point range with 26 seconds left to give them an 89-88 advantage. Cartwright failed to answer on the other end, but Jimmie Taylor missed both of his free- throw attempts to give the Quakers another chance. Stewart managed to knock the ball out of Dougherty's hands to register a steal and Taylor intentionally missed his final shot at the charity stripe with one second remaining to prevent Penn from having any time to get off another attempt.

Rider outrebounded the Quakers, 43-26, and outscored the visitors, 40-20, in the paint.
