Recap: Stanford vs. BYU

Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Haws poured in 31 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace the Cougars as BYU picked up a 112-103 victory over the Stanford Cardinal in a non-conference bout at Maples Pavilion.

Matt Carlino scored 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field for BYU (2-0), which also received 14 points, nine assists and seven boards from Kyle Collinsworth. Nate Austin contributed 12 points and eight rebounds, Eric Mika added 12 points and Anson Winder went 4-of-5 from the floor to post 10 points, which he accompanied with five assists.

Chasson Randle led Stanford (1-1) with 33 points and seven rebounds. Dwight Powell netted 28 points, Anthony Brown scored 16 points and Josh Huestis pulled down nine rebounds. John Gage also got into the mix as he knocked down 4-of-5 attempts from beyond the arc to tally 12 points before fouling out.

The Cougars took control in the first half as they knocked down 53.7 percent of their field goal attempts including 5-of-9 from behind the 3-point line. Stanford faced a 54-46 deficit at halftime after it was limited to 41.7 percent shooting from the floor and went 2-of-11 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes of the contest.

Although the Cardinal heated up to convert 50 percent of their field goal tries in the second half, BYU managed keep the hosts at bay as it drained 23- of-32 attempts at the free-throw line after halftime.

The Cougars assisted 23 of their 38 made field goals in the game. The visitors also held a sizeable, 28-11, edge in points off turnovers.

BYU improved to 5-2 all-time versus Stanford with the win.
