Recap: Utah State vs. USC

Logan, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Preston Medlin scored 17 points, leading four starters in double figures, as the Utah State Aggies posted a 78-65 win over the USC Trojans in the season opener for both programs at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Spencer Butterfield and Jarred Shaw pitched in with 12 points apiece for the Aggies (1-0), followed by Kyle Davis who tallied 10 and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Trojans (0-1) were paced by J.T. Terrell who dropped in a game-high 20 points, while Omar Oraby and Byron Wesley both delivered 15 points and combined for 17 rebounds.

USC led by a pair early in the first half, but the team shot only 2-of-11 behind the 3-point line in the period, en route to a 40-33 deficit at the break. The Aggies made good on an impressive 56.7 percent from the floor through the first 20 minutes of action.

The shooting woes continued for the Trojans in the second half as the visitors made a mere 2-of-13 on the outside, preventing them from truly challenging the Aggies down the stretch.

Utah State, which led by as many as 21 points midway through the second frame, held the visitors to just 36.9 percent shooting from the floor.
