Recap: Dayton vs. USC

Dayton, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Pe'Shon Howard drained a 3-pointer just before the buzzer in the extra session to lift the USC Trojans to a 79-76 overtime win over the Dayton Flyers in a non-conference thriller at UD Arena.

Howard finished with 12 points and four assists for USC (8-4) as it picked up its inaugural true road victory of the season. Byron Wesley registered a monster double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Nikola Jovanovic tallied 12 points to go along with seven boards.

Jordan Sibert paced the Flyers (9-3) with 21 points. Dyshawn Pierre recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. The other three starters for Dayton shot a collective 2-of-15 from the floor.

The Flyers connected on an even 50 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes of the contest en route to a 37-32 halftime lead. USC also shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, but it missed all five of its 3-point field goal tries before the break.

The Trojans stepped up their play on the defensive end of the floor after the intermission and held the hosts to 25.8 percent efficiency from the field in the second period. Wesley scored his 11th point of the second half with 33 seconds remaining in the second stanza when he made a game-tying layup that evened the score at 69. Dayton had a chance to win in regulation, but the game progressed into overtime after Khari Price missed a 3-point try and Devin Oliver's jumper as time expired fell off the mark.

Oliver also failed to convert a layup with five seconds left in the extra session and Wesley pulled down a rebound off the miss to set up Howard's game- winning triple.

The Trojans overcame their lack of accuracy from the outside by outscoring Dayton, 52-32, in the paint.
