Recap: Northern Ariz vs. Drake

Fresno, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Caird led the Drake Bulldogs with 16 points as they topped the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, 76-56, at Save Mart Center as part of the Fresno State Classic.

Caird shot 5-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range for the Bulldogs (5-1). Aaron Hawley (13 points), Richard Carter (12) and Gary Ricks, Jr. (10) padded the Bulldogs' offense, while Carter also tallied seven assists and four steals.

Quinton Upshur turned in a game-high 20 points for the Lumberjacks (2-5) on 8- of-17 from the field. Kris Yanku and Christopher Miller came off the bench and scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Bulldogs got off to a great start in the first half, knocking down six field goals from the perimeter and taking a comfortable 37-22 lead into halftime. The Lumberjacks, in turn, shot a hapless 32.3 percent during that stretch, going 0-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Drake continued its steady performance in the second half, shooting an improved 59.3 percent from the field. The Bulldogs led by as many as 23, midway through, and an improved Lumberjacks shooting performance (.480) was not enough to overcome the deficit.

NAU never led in the contest and shot just 39.3 percent from the field. The Lumberjacks were also outrebounded (36-31) and committed 15 turnovers, which led to 19 Drake points.
