Recap: Drake vs. Southern Ill

Des Moines, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Desmar Jackson netted 24 points as the Southern Illinois Salukis easily rolled to a 74-58 over the Drake Bulldogs in Missouri Valley Conference action at Knapp Center.

Jackson tallied five rebounds, five assists and six steals to round out his stat line. Anthony Beane scored 20 points for Southern Illinois (9-15, 5-6 MVC), and Bola Olaniyan chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds in the win. SIU has won three games in a row.

Chris Caird scored 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting to lead Drake (12-11, 3-8). Richard Carter contributed 17 points and five steals in the losing effort. The Bulldogs have lost three of their last four contests.

Southern Illinois came out firing in the first half, netting 59.3 percent of its shots from the floor which led to a 46-29 lead at the intermission. Drake connected on 40.9 percent of its shots in the frame.

The Salukis cooled off a bit in the second period, hitting 38.9 percent of its shots from the field. The Bulldogs' percentage fell in the second half as well, as they connected on just 33.3 percent of their field goal tries.

SIU had the edge in points in the paint, 26-18, and in points off turnovers, 27-14. Drake won the battle in second chance points, 9-4.
