Recap: Illinois State vs. Evansville

Normal, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Zach Lofton scored 21 points with six rebounds as the Illinois State Redbirds narrowly defeated the Evansville Purple Aces 79-78 in overtime during a Missouri Valley Conference matchup at Redbird Arena.

Daishon Knight had 16 points for the Redbirds (10-7, 3-2 MVC). Bobby Hunter added 10 points while Reggie Lynch had three blocks.

D.J. Balentine paced the Purple Aces (8-10, 1-4) with 22 points and eight assists. Blake Simmons chipped in 16 points while Tyler Ptacek had 12. Egidijus Mockevicius had a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.

Illinois State led 42-40 at the half after shooting 58.1 percent from the field, including 6-of-14 from 3-point range in the first period. Evansville made 53.8 percent of its field goal attempts, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.

In the second half the Purple Aces made 40.7 percent of their shots from the floor, including 8-of-17 from 3-point range. The Redbirds struggled by converting on only 32.3 percent of their field goal tries. A Knight 3-pointer with eight seconds left in regulation tied the game up and forced overtime

Illinois State hit 3-of-7 from the floor and both attempts from the free-throw line in the extra session to secure the victory.

The Redbirds played well inside, holding a 34-22 edge on points in the paint advantage.
