Recap: Illinois State vs. Southern Ill

Normal, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Zach Lofton scored 18 points as the Illinois State Redbirds delivered a 66-48 win over the Southern Illinois Salukis in Missouri Valley Conference action at Redbird Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the Redbirds (8-6, 1-1 MVC) was Bobby Hunter with 15 points, hitting all seven of his free-throw attempts off the bench for a team that has won three of the last four.

Southern Illinois (4-11, 0-2), which has lost three in a row, was led by Desmar Jackson who tallied a game-high 19 points, but he was the only player in double figures for the visitors.

The Salukis shot just 35.3 percent from the floor in the first half, including 2-of-8 behind the 3-point line, but the team was able to come up with 11 second-chance points, thanks to nine offensive rebounds. However, SIU still had to settle for a 38-31 deficit at the break.

In the second half Illinois State put together a 17-2 run to pull away and secure the comfortable win at home.

Southern Illinois shot just 31.5 percent from the field on the day, including 3-of-14 behind the 3-point line.
