Recap: Wichita State vs. Illinois State

Wichita, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Cleanthony Early and Ron Baker both scored 11 points and Fred VanVleet dished out a career-high 10 assists as sixth- ranked Wichita State topped Illinois State, 66-47.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well, with only three players reaching double figures in points.

The Shockers (16-0, 3-0 MVC), who extended both the best start and longest winning streak in school history, made only 41.1 percent of their field goal attempts while holding Illinois State to 32.7 percent shooting.

Bobby Hunter led the Redbirds (8-7, 1-2) with 11 points.

Wichita State never trailed in the game, but Hunter sank a 3-pointer to pull Illinois State to within 14-12 early on. Baker responded by nailing a trey of his own, igniting a 17-4 run that enabled the Shockers to pull away.

Ahead by 13 at halftime after Darius Carter's tip-in at the buzzer, Wichita State opened the second half with seven straight points. Tekele Cotton hit a 3-pointer to cap the run and put the Shockers up 44-24.

A 3-point play by Early pushed the lead to 54-30 with just under 11 minutes remaining.
