Recap: Northern Iowa vs. Illinois State

Cedar Falls, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Seth Tuttle netted 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Northern Iowa Panthers outlasted the Illinois State Redbirds, 72-59, in a Missouri Valley Conference clash at McLeod Center.

Matt Bohannon scored 14 points , hitting 4-of-8 from 3-point range, and Nate Buss came off the bench to score 13 points for Northern Iowa (14-14, 8-8 MVC). Jeremy Morgan chipped in with 10 points in the win, which was the third in four games for the Panthers.

Zach Lofton scored a career-high 24 points with four steals for Illinois State (15-13, 8-8). Reggie Lynch contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots in the loss, which snapped a two-game win streak for the Redbirds.

Northern Iowa came out firing in the first half, netting 51.9 percent of its shots from the field, adding a perfect 7-of-7 from 3-point range, to take a commanding 40-24 lead at the intermission. Illinois State connected on 37.5 percent of its tries in the frame.

The Panthers cooled to 40.9 percent shooting in the second half, hitting 5- of-11 from 3-point distance. The Redbirds netted 44.4 percent of their field goal attempts, but could only make up three points on the large first-half deficit.

Northern Iowa had the edge in points in the paint, 24-18, and outscored Illinois State from the free-throw line, 16-10. The Redbirds won the battle in second chance points, 10-2.
