Recap: Indiana State vs. Loyola-Chicago

Terre Haute, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Manny Arop registered 18 points and seven rebounds, as the Indiana State Sycamores downed the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, 70-58, in a Missouri Valley Conference showdown at the Hulman Center.

Arop shot 7-of-15 from the field for Indiana State (10-3, 1-0 MVC), including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Dawon Cummings came off the bench to net 10 points for the Sycamores, who have won three in a row.

For Loyola (5-8, 0-1), Christian Thomas led all scorers with 18 points on 8- of-12 from the floor. Cody Johnson pitched in 15 points, while Milton Doyle added eight points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Even though Loyola shot a lofty 66.7 percent from the field in the first half, it still trailed heading into intermission, 36-32. Indiana State shot just 44.1 percent in the opening stanza but took control by attempting 13 more shots than its opponent.

The Sycamores regressed to only 37.5 percent shooting from the field in the second half, but the Ramblers dropped off too (.370) as Indiana State held on for the 12-point win.

Indiana State won the rebounding battle, 36-25, and outscored Loyola at the foul line, 15-3.
