Recap: Colorado State vs. Northern Colorado

Fort Collins, CO ( - J.J. Avila tallied 28 points as he led the Colorado State Rams over the Northern Colorado Bears, 72-65, as part of the Colorado State Challenge at Moby Arena.

Avila was 9-of-13 from the field and hit all 10 of his free-throw attempts for the Rams (3-2). Daniel Bejarano contributed a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jon Octeus and Marcus Holt added 11 points each, while Octeus grabbed nine rebounds but shot only 3-of-13 from the floor. With the victory the Rams have won 18 straight home games against non-conference opponents.

For the Bears (2-2), Tevin Svihovec scored 20 points as the squad dropped its second consecutive game. Derrick Barden and Corey Spence managed 11 points each, while the latter dished out a game-high six assists.

Northern Colorado led at the break, 35-32, after holding the Rams to just 34.4 percent shooting from the field and 1-of-7 from 3-point range in the first half.

While the squad went 0-of-5 from long range, the Rams shot 50.0 percent from the field and made 16-of-22 attempts from the free-throw line as they outscored the Bears 40-30 in the half in order to claim the seven-point win.

Northern Colorado's 24 personal fouls led to 33 attempts at the charity stripe for the Rams, who made 25 shots.
