Recap: Colorado State vs. Ill-Chicago

Fort Collins, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Jon Octeus scored 18 points as the Colorado State Rams claimed a 74-61 win over the Flames of Illinois-Chicago in non-conference play at Moby Arena.

J.J. Avila and Daniel Bejarano both accounted for 10 points and five assists, the former clearing eight rebounds and the latter collecting a game-high 15 boards for the Rams (8-4) as they won for the second time in the last three outings.

The Flames (5-8), losers of two straight, were led by Kelsey Barlow who tallied a game-high 20 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor, but no one else managed to produce more than eight points for UIC in the setback.

The Flames led early on in the meeting, but the team made a total of just nine field goals in the first half, en route to a 30-23 deficit at the break. Colorado State failed to pull away after connecting on a mere 36.4 percent from the floor and 1-of-10 shots behind the 3-point line over the first 20 minutes.

In the second half the Rams boosted their field goal accuracy to 51.7 percent and also made good on 12-of-15 at the free-throw line in order to create some space between themselves and the visitors.

Colorado State not only held a 43-31 rebounding advantage, the team also took great care of the ball with just six turnovers.
