Recap: UC Irvine vs. Fresno State

Irvine, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Allen Huddleston's 3-pointer at the end of overtime gave the Fresno State Bulldogs just what they needed as they pulled out a thrilling 98-97 victory over the UC Irvine Anteaters in non-conference play at the Bren Events Center.

Huddleston came off the bench and tallied 12 points for the Bulldogs (1-0), one of five players in double figures for the visitors. Marvelle Harris was responsible for a game-high 30 points, adding seven rebounds and five assists while shooting 10-of-15 from the floor, followed by Cezar Guerrero and Paul Watson with 23 and 18 points, respectively.

Tyler Johnson filled his stat line for the Bulldogs with 13 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, trying to make up for the fact that he shot just 5-of-15 from the field.

The Anteaters (0-1) were paced by Chris McNealy with 27 points, Alex Young 20 and Travis Souza 13 points off the bench. Will Davis registered a double- double with 10 points and a game-high 16 boards before picking up his fifth personal foul.

Both teams shot the ball well from the field in the first half, with UCI converting 58.1 percent, including 5-of-10 behind the 3-point line, in order to take a 46-36 lead at the break.

In the second half Fresno State climbed back into contention on the strength of 7-of-15 shooting beyond the arc, but still the visitors needed a 3-pointer by Harris with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to knot the score at 85-85 and send the meeting into overtime.

Young gave the hosts a 97-95 edge with five seconds left in overtime when he converted a 3-point shot, but Huddleston still played the hero as he banked in a running jumper from 40 feet out at the buzzer.

The Anteaters may have won the battle of the boards, 45-32, limiting FSU to just four offensive rebounds, but the home team didn't do itself any favors with 15 turnovers and just 14-of-29 shooting at the free-throw line.
