Cedar Falls, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Nate Buss tallied 16 points and seven rebounds off the bench, as the Northern Iowa Panthers claimed a 77-68 win over the VCU Rams in non-conference play from the McLeod Center.

Buss shot 7-of-8 from the field in his 23 minutes of floor time. Fellow reserve Jeremy Morgan chipped in with 13 points for the Panthers (5-5), who held a key 39-17 edge in bench points for the game. Deon Mitchell rounded out UNI's double-digit scorers with 11 points to go along with seven rebounds.

The Rams (8-3) saw their winning streak halted at four in a row, despite a game-high 18 points apiece from Jordan Burgess and Treveon Graham. JeQuan Lewis added 13 points off the bench as he shot 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

The Rams led by as many as five eight minutes into the game, but they went on to shoot just 8-of-30 from the field (.267) in the opening frame and trailed, 27-20, at intermission.

UNI had the hot hand in the second half as it shot 65.2 percent from the floor, including a 6-of-10 effort from 3-point range. The Panthers also held a 14-8 scoring edge at the foul line over the final 20 minutes to keep VCU at bay.

The Rams actually had better success from 3-point range (10-of-25) than from inside the perimeter (14-of-40) in the loss.
