Recap: Southern Ill vs. Saint Louis

Carbondale, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike McCall Jr. scored 19 points in leading the Saint Louis Billikens to a 76-67 triumph over the Southern Illinois Salukis in a non-conference matchup at SIU Arena.

Dwayne Evans added 13 points and Jake Barnett tallied 12 off the bench for Saint Louis (3-0).

Desmar Jackson scored 18 points, Marcus Fillyaw added 17 and Jalen Pendleton tacked on 14 as a reserve for Southern Illinois. Bronson Verhines had 11 rebounds and nine points.

Saint Louis clung to a 37-36 lead at halftime after shooting 45.5 percent from the field while allowing Southern Illinois to hit on 52 percent. The difference for the Billikens was from 3-point distance as they outscored the Salukis, 15-6, in the period from beyond the arc.

After the break the Billikens were able to separate themselves by holding the Salukis to just 38.7 percent shooting.

The Billikens had a 40-33 advantage on the boards and outscored the Salukis, 21-6, from beyond the arc.
