Recap: St Bonaventure vs. Southern Ill

Estero, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Matthew Wright scored 32 points as the St. Bonaventure Bonnies handed the Southern Illinois Salukis an 83-71 defeat during the Gulf Coast Showcase at Germain Arena.

Wright hit 5-of-10 shots from beyond the arc and Dion Wright tacked on 15 points for St. Bonaventure (4-1), which advances to face Wagner on Tuesday. Charlon Kloof and Andell Cumberbatch each tacked on 11 points.

Desmar Jackson was a perfect 11-of-11 at the free-throw line and finished with 25 points for Southern Illinois (1-4). Anthony Beane and Jalen Pendleton each added 13 points. The Salukis take on Stetson in the next leg of the Showcase.

The Bonnies claimed a 40-30 lead at halftime after hitting 51.9 percent of their shots from the floor in the first 20 minutes.

After the break the Salukis turned in a scorching 71.4 percent shooting effort but the Bonnies kept them at bay by netting 53.6 percent from the field, including 7-of-11 from 3-point range.

The Bonnies owned a 29-22 edge on the boards and outscored the Salukis, 30-12, from beyond the arc.
