Recap: Murray State vs. Southern Ill

Murray, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Cameron Payne scored 22 points to lead the Murray State Racers to a 73-65 victory over the Southern Illinois Salukis in a non-conference battle at the CFSB Center.

Payne also handed out seven assists for Murray State (5-5), which has won three straight. T.J. Sapp added 15 points and Jarvis Williams collected 10 rebounds in the win.

Desmar Jackson connected on 9-of-18 shots from the floor to finish with 28 points for Southern Illinois (2-8). Anthony Beane chipped in 10 points as the Salukis fell for the fourth straight game.

Murray State led by a slim, 33-30, margin at halftime. The Racers connected on only 39.1 percent of their field goal tries but limited Southern Illinois to 33.3 percent shooting.

Payne took over in the second half, when he scored 19 points as part of a 44.4 percent shooting effort from Murray State overall. The Salukis were unable to pull themselves ahead, netting 44 percent from the floor.

The Racers knocked down 8-of-18 shots from beyond the arc while the Salukis had only three 3-pointers. Southern Illinois had the edge on scoring in the paint (32-22).
