Recap: Southern Ill vs. SIU Edwardsville

Carbondale, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jalen Pendleton scored a game-high 20 points off the bench as the Southern Illinois Salukis captured a 74-57 win over the SIU Edwardsville Cougars in non-conference action at SIU Arena.

Desmar Jackson not only scored 13 points, he pulled down eight rebounds and handed out eight assists for the Salukis (4-8) as they won their second straight outing. Marcus Fillyaw pitched in with 11 points as he shot a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor on the night.

The Cougars (2-10), losers of four straight and eight of the last nine, failed to have a single player score in double figures. Tim Johnson managed to come up with nine points and Ray Lester eight in the losing cause.

SIUE hung around for the first few minutes of the contest, but a 15-0 run for the Salukis midway through the first half pushed the hosts ahead, en route to a 39-20 lead at the break. The hosts knocked down 57.1 percent from the field in the period.

In the second half it was more of the same for the Salukis as they converted 63.6 percent of their field goal chances, allowing them to cruise to the comfortable win.

SIU shot only 2-of-10 behind the 3-point line in the meeting, but made up for it by holding the opposition to just 31.4 percent accuracy from the floor overall.

The Salukis entered the meeting having won all five of the previous meetings in the series with SIU Edwardsville.
