Recap: UNLV vs. Portland State

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Roscoe Smith posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds as the UNLV Runnin' Rebels coasted to a 67-48 decision over the Portland State Vikings in the season opener for both sides at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Kevin Olekaibe added 14 points for UNLV (1-0), which also received a double- double of 13 points and 17 boards from Khem Birch. Kendall Smith contributed 10 points and four assists for the Runnin' Rebels in the win.

Tim Douglas paced Portland State (0-1) with 18 points while Brandon Cataldo just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Richardson also had a strong showing with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Vikings converted only 37.9 percent of their field goal attempts and missed all four of their shots from beyond the arc in the first half. UNLV took a 29-28 lead into the intermission after it went just 6-of-13 at the free-throw line in the opening 20 minutes.

UNLV limited Portland State to just 25 percent shooting from the floor and sank 5-of-11 attempts from behind the 3-point line to pull away in the second half.

The Rebels assists 18 of their 23 makes from the field while the Vikings finished the game with only four assists and 20 turnovers.
