Recap: UC Santa Barbara vs. Utah State

Santa Barbara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Preston Medlin scored 18 points to help the Utah State Aggies to a 71-64 road victory over the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in a non-conference bout at the Thunderdome.

Spencer Butterfield added 16 points, Ben Clifford tacked on 10 off the bench and Jarred Shaw nearly had a double-double with nine points and as many rebounds for Utah State (3-0).

UC Santa Barbara (2-1) got 15 points from Michael Bryson, 14 from Sam Beeler and 11 from Kyle Boswell.

Medlin scored nine points, as did Shaw, in the first half as the Aggies rode a 46.4 percent shooting effort, including a 6-of-12 showing from beyond the arc, to a 39-29 halftime lead. The Gauchos had just 10 field goals in the opening period, though they did manage a 4-of-8 performance from 3-point range.

In the second half the Gauchos improved to 50 percent shooting but the Aggies were able to hold them off by knocking down 4-of-9 shots from 3-point distance and 10-of-12 at the free-throw line.

Utah State owned a 38-25 advantage on the boards. UCSB had a 20-12 edge in points off turnovers.
