Recap: UC Riverside vs. Cal Poly

Riverside, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Steven Jones registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds as the UC Riverside Highlanders slipped by Cal Poly in a 61-58 Big West Conference battle at SRC Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the Highlanders (7-13, 2-4 Big West) were Chris Patton and Sam Finley with 17 and 10 points, respectively, snapping a two-game slide in the process.

The Mustangs (8-11, 4-2) were led by Dave Nwaba with 17 points, while Chris Eversley added 13 and eight rebounds, followed by Maliik Love with 10 points in the losing cause.

UCR converted a total of just six field goals in the first half, getting off a mere 17 attempts over the 20-minute frame, which left the squad with a 26-20 deficit at the break.

In the second half the Highlanders improved to 47.8 percent from the floor and also knocked down 16-of-19 at the free-throw line, closing out the meeting with a 10-0 run to grab the win.

Cal Poly, which was held scoreless for more than three minutes down the stretch, shot only 3-of-17 behind the 3-point line on the night.
