Recap: UC Irvine vs. Cal Poly

Irvine, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Young scored 12 points and Mamadou Ndiaye 10 as the UC Irvine Anteaters slipped by Cal Poly for a 55-48 win in Big West Conference action at the Bren Events Center.

Ndiaye, who shot 4-of-7 from the field for the Anteaters (20-10, 11-3 Big West), also blocked three shots to set the school's all-time, single season record in that department as the team posted a second straight win and the seventh in the last eight outings overall.

David Nwaba led all scorers with 20 points off the bench, adding 13 rebounds for the Mustangs (10-18, 6-9) as they bowed for the fourth time in the last five outings. Chris Eversley added 10 points, but the rest of the unit combined for only 18 points on the night.

Neither team shot the ball well from the field in the first half, with the Cal Poly starting five accounting for just a single point, while Nwaba produced 13 points and nine boards in the frame. The visitors shot a dismal 16.7 percent from the floor and missed all six chances behind the 3-point line, en route to the 19-16 deficit at the break.

After shooting only 7-of-28 from the floor and 1-of-6 beyond the arc in the first half, UCI jumped to 66.7 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes in order to bring home the win.

Cal Poly finished the night with an awful 34.0 percent accuracy from the field and 2-of-14 on the outside.
