Recap: Cal State Fullerton vs. UC Riverside

Fullerton, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Steve McClellan notched a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Cal State Fullerton Titans, as they bested the UC Riverside Highlanders, 78-73, in a Big West Conference matchup at Titan Gym.

Michael Williams tallied a team-high 21 points for the Titans (6-9, 1-0 Big West), who have won three of their last five games. Josh Gentry and Marquis Horne contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Taylor Johns recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Highlanders (5-10, 0-1), who have lost four of their last five. Steven Thornton and Sam Finley added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Mustangs shot 41.9 percent in the opening half from the floor, including 5-of-11 from 3-point range. At the other end, the Titans shot 39.3 percent, with just 1-of-4 coming from the perimeter, and they trailed 36-29 at the break.

In the second half, the Titans' 40 percent mark from the field was bolstered by 18-of-20 at the line. The Mustangs, though outscored in the half, kept pace with 46.2 percent from the floor and 17-of-25 at the line and hung on for the win.

In the tight game, Fullerton had its perimeter game working slightly better, sinking 6-of-18, while UCR hit just 3-of-13 from beyond the arc.
