Recap: Loyola Marymount vs. Grand Canyon

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Ireland scored 14 points, leading four starters in double figures, as the Loyola Marymount Lions captured a 78-75 win over the Antelopes of Grand Canyon as part of the USD Classic at Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Ben Dickinson accounted for 12 points, while Ayodeji Egbeyemi and Gabe Levin posted 11 points apiece, the latter also clearing nine rebounds for the Lions (1-0) in the win.

The Antelopes (0-1) were led by Killian Larson who scored a game-high 18 points and also pulled down nine boards in the losing effort. Demetrius Walker pitched in with 17 points off the bench, followed by Blake Davis with 12, Justin Foreman 11 points and Jerome Garrison 10.

Grand Canyon led by as many as four points in the first half, but the squad shot only 35.7 percent from the floor in the frame, including 3-of-13 behind the 3-point line, en route to a 41-29 deficit at the break.

In the second half LMU's defense was much more lenient, allowing the Antelopes to convert 57.7 percent from the field. Add to that a nearly-perfect 14-of-15 showing at the free-throw line over the final 20 minutes and Grand Canyon almost pulled off the victory.

In a game that featured five ties and six lead changes, the Antelopes hurt themselves with 19 turnovers.
