Recap: UC Irvine vs. CS-Northridge

Irvine, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Luke Nelson scored 14 points to lead four players in double figures for the UC Irvine Anteaters, who took down the Cal State Northridge Matadors 72-66 in a Big West Conference conflict at Bren Events Center.

Chris McNealy added 12 points for UC Irvine (13-7, 4-0 Big West), which has won six straight. Alex Young tacked on 10 points and seven assists and Mamadou Ndiaye had 10 points to match 10 rebounds.

Stephen Maxwell logged a game-high 21 points and 15 rebounds for Cal State Northridge (10-10, 2-3), which has lost three straight. Aaron Parks tacked on 14 points off the bench and Stephan Hicks tallied 10.

The Anteaters entered intermission leading 36-29. They connected on 41.9 percent from the floor and held the Matadors to nine field goals in the opening period.

Young and Nelson each scored 10 points in the second half, as the Anteaters shot 50 percent from the floor to hold on for the win.

UC Irvine earned a 42-37 advantage on the boards and outscored the Matadors 27-6 from beyond the arc.
