Recap: CS-Northridge vs. UC Riverside

Northridge, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephen Maxwell registered a double- double with 24 points and 13 rebounds as the Cal State Northridge Matadors slipped by UC Riverside in overtime, 93-89, in Big West Conference action at the Matadome.

Josh Greene added 22 points and five assists for the Matadors (11-11, 3-4 Big West) as they snapped a four-game slide. Stephan Hicks produced 13 points and eight rebounds for the hosts, while Aaron parks and Landon Drew contributed 11 points apiece, the latter handing out six assists as well.

The Highlanders (7-14, 2-5) were led by Sam Finley who delivered 27 points off the bench, while Taylor Johns chipped in 16 and six boards as the team suffered a third loss in the last four games. Steven Thornton and Chris Patton added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

CSUN made good on a solid 57.1 percent from the field in the first half, including 6-of-9 behind the 3-point line, but the Highlanders were simply unstoppable in the period as they hit on a staggering 72.0 percent from the floor, including 7-of-11 on the outside, en route to a 49-43 advantage at the break.

Obviously UCR would have a hard time keeping up the pace in the second half, but not only did the team come back to reality, the squad converted a mere 8- of-23 (.348) from the field and just 1-of-8 on the perimeter. Trailing by three late in regulation, Johns converted one of two free throws, followed by a layup by Finley to knot the score at 80-80.

With just over a minute left in the extra session, a 3-pointer by Greene gave the hosts a 91-89 advantage and Stephen Maxwell then provided the squad some breathing room with a dunk in the final seconds to secure the win.
