Recap: UC Davis vs. CS-Northridge

Davis, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Hawkins tallied 27 points, six rebounds and six assists as the UC Davis Aggies outlasted the Cal State Northridge Matadors for a 90-86 overtime win in a Big West Conference thriller at the Pavilion.

Ryan Sypkens chipped in 16 points for UC Davis (8-15, 3-5 Big West) while Georgi Funtarov contributed 15 points and seven rebounds. Brynton Lemar and Avery Johnson scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Stephan Hicks paced the Matadors (11-13, 3-6) with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor. Stephen Maxwell also had a strong showing with 21 points. Josh Greene made all eight of his free-throw attempts en route to 19 points and Landon Drew dealt out a game-high seven assists before fouling out.

The Aggies knocked down 50 percent of their field goal attempts including an 8-of-17 clip from 3-point range in the opening period. Northridge went into the intermission facing a 49-32 deficit after it was limited to 28.1 percent efficiency from the floor in the first half.

The Matadors battled back as they heated up to sink 62.5 percent of their attempts from the field and converted 16-of-18 free-throw tries in the second stanza. UC Davis had just three assists against nine turnovers in the second half. The Matadors trailed, 81-76, with 42 seconds left in regulation. Tre Hale-Emerson made it a one-possession game with a layup and Greene drained a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left to tie the score. Hawkins had a potential game- winning jumper blocked by Hicks as time expired in the second half.

The contest remained close in the extra session before Funtarov knocked down a go-ahead 3-pointer with seven seconds showing on the game clock. Greene was unable to answer on the other end and Northridge did not get another chance.

UC Davis outscored the Matadors, 39-9, from beyond the arc. Northridge finished 31-of-37 at the free-throw line.
