Recap: UC Santa Barbara vs. CS-Northridge

Santa Barbara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephen Maxwell's jumper in the waning moments of overtime pushed Cal State Northridge over the top as the Matadors secured a thrilling 80-78 win over the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in Big West Conference action at the Thunderdome.

Maxwell finished the evening with a double-double consisting of 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Matadors (13-14, 5-7 Big West) as they won for the second time in the last three outings. Josh Greene tallied a team-best 23 points and Ben Vozzola tacked on 17 as he converted 5-of-6 shots behind the 3-point line.

The Gauchos (16-7, 7-3) were paced by Alan Williams who recorded yet another double-double with 22 points and 17 boards, followed by Zalmico Harmon with 21 points and eight assists for a team that had a four-game win streak come to an end. Taran Brown responded with 12 points and eight rebounds, and before fouling out, Michael Bryson posted 10 points.

Both teams shot less than 40 percent from the field in the first half, but while UCSB knocked down only 3-of-12 beyond the arc, the Matadors were much more efficient (5-of-8) as they claimed a 35-33 advantage at the break.

With just over a minute remaining in regulation the Gauchos enjoyed a 68-61 advantage, but from there the hosts made just three free throws, allowing CSUN to battle back and knot the score at 71-71 when Landon Drew converted a layup with under 10 seconds to play.

UCSB shot just 36.9 percent from the floor on the night, 7-of-26 on the perimeter, and turned the ball over 18 times.
