Recap: Hawaii vs. Long Beach State

Honolulu, HI (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Caffey scored a game-high 29 points as the Long Beach State 49ers captured a 92-83 win over the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in Big West Conference action at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Caffey converted 10-of-14 from the floor for the 49ers (8-12, 4-2 Big West) as they won for the fourth time in five games. AJ Spencer accounted for 24 points, hitting 8-of-10 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 at the free-throw line, followed by Branford Jones with 11 points off the bench.

The Rainbow Warriors (14-6, 3-3) were paced by Garrett Nevels and Christian Standhardinger with 18 points apiece, the latter also clearing nine rebounds as the squad had a three-game win streak come to an end. Isaac Fotu chipped in 16 points, Brandon Spearman 14 and Quincy Smith 11 points off the bench.

Hawaii led by six early in the first half, but while the team was able to knock down an impressive 6-of-13 behind the 3-point line in the frame, it was LBSU that grabbed a slim 44-43 edge at the break on the strength of 60.0 percent shooting from the floor.

In the second half the 49ers again converted 60 percent from the field in order to stay ahead and secure the nine-point victory.

Long Beach State outscored the hosts at the free-throw line, 22-12, and also produced a 42-28 margin in the paint.
