Recap: Sacramento St vs. UC Irvine

Sacramento, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris McNealy paced UC Irvine with 15 points as the Anteaters made easy work of the Sacramento State Hornets, 79-53, in a non-conference clash at The Nest.

Luke Nelson added 14 points for UCI (5-3), while Alex Young tallied 12 points and six assists. Will Davis II was solid in the paint, registering seven points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

For Sacramento State (2-3), Cody Demps led all scorers with 16 points on 6- of-10 from the field. Mikh McKinney logged 10 points and three steals for the hosts.

Sacramento State actually led after one half, 32-31, after outshooting UCI from the field in the first 20 minutes, 42.3 percent to 37.5 percent.

The Anteaters got hot after intermission, shooting a blistering 67.9 percent from the field in the second half, compared to a lowly 26.7 percent for the Hornets. UCI took control of the contest early in the second stanza with a 14-2 run and never looked back.

UCI had a dominating advantage down low, as it outrebounded Sacramento State by a 44-29 margin. It also outscored the Hornets in the paint, 38-8.
