Recap: UC Riverside vs. Montana State

Riverside, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Taylor Johns dropped in 31 points as the UC Riverside Highlanders posted a 72-67 victory over the Montana State Bobcats in non-conference action at SRC Arena.

Johns connected on 13-of-16 attempts from the field and Steven Thornton added 11 points for UC Riverside (1-2).

Paul Egwuonwu scored 13 points, Flavien Davis tallied 12 and Calen Coleman pitched in 10 for Montana State (0-2).

The teams were tied, 30-30, at the break despite UC Riverside shooting 43.5 percent to Montana State's 53.8 percent. The Highlanders managed to stay even thanks to an 8-0 edge from the free-throw line.

After the break the Highlanders improved to 52.2 percent shooting while the Bobcats stumbled, connecting on just 42.4 percent from the field to let the victory slip away.

UC Riverside had 24 more free throw attempts than the Bobcats and outscored them, 25-8, from the charity stripe.
