Recap: North Texas vs. UC Riverside

Denton, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandan Walton and Maurice Aniefiok combined to score 27 points off the bench to help the North Texas Mean Green complete a 76-72 victory over the UC Riverside Highlanders in a non-conference matchup at the Super Pit.

Walton finished with 14 points and Aniefiok added 13 for North Texas (9-5), which has won four straight and seven of its last eight. Colin Voss contributed 10 rebounds and eight points.

Sam Finely and Steven Thornton each scored a game-high 18 points for UC Riverside (5-9), with Thornton also producing nine rebounds. Taylor Johns ripped down 15 rebounds as well.

The Mean Green hit on 44.8 percent of their shots from the floor, including 4- of-8 from beyond the arc, to claim a 33-27 lead at halftime. The Highlanders had only eight field goals in the first 20 minutes.

After the break UC Riverside hit on 44.7 percent from the floor, including 6- of-10 from beyond the arc. Though North Texas had eight fewer field goals in the frame, it knocked down 18-of-27 from the free-throw line to hold on for the win.

The Highlanders outscored the Mean Green, 26-18, in the paint. North Texas had advantages in points off turnovers (14-7) and in second chance scoring (13-2).
