Recap: Appalachian St vs. Charlotte

Boone, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Thorne Jr. scored 26 points and Willie Clayton recorded a double-double to lead the Charlotte 49ers to a 77-59 triumph over the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a non-conference battle at the Holmes Center.

Clayton finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds for Charlotte (7-2). Terrence Williams added 12 points and Shawn Lester netted 10 off the bench before fouling out. Pierria Henry handed out seven assists and collected six steals.

Mike Neal scored 15 points as the only player in double figures for Appalachian State (2-6).

Charlotte got out to a 37-22 lead at halftime by netting 48.4 percent of its field goal tries in the first half. The Mountaineers lagged behind, shooting at just a 25 percent clip.

The 49ers heated up to 53.1 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes to coast to the victory.

In terms of points in the paint, Charlotte was the superior unit netting 54 to Appalachian State's 28. The Mountaineers hit just 4-of-24 shots from 3-point range.
