Hunter Williams scored 18 points for Troy (4-5) but he missed a potential game-tying 3-point shot in the final seconds. Jeff Mullahey added 11 points.

However, Alan Williams split a pair of free-throws and, after a pair of missed foul shots from Troy, Eric Childress made a layup that brought the Gauchos even once again with just over a minute left. Mullahey missed a 3-point attempt on the next possession for Troy and Boswell answered on the other end with his game-winner.

The game featured seven ties and 12 lead changes. UCSB had a 37-28 advantage in rebounds. Troy outscored the Gauchos, 14-5, off turnovers.
