Recap: UC Santa Barbara vs. Western Ill

Logan, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Alan Williams finished with 22 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks as he carried the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos to a 61-55 victory over the Western Illinois Leathernecks during the Basketball Travelers Classic at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Michael Bryson added 11 points for UC Santa Barbara (7-4).

Jabari Sandifer netted 13 points and Garret Covington chipped in 12 for Western Illinois (5-7). Adam Link recorded 10 points and came a rebound shy of a double-double.

In the first half the Leathernecks connected on 47.6 percent of their field goal attempts, including a 4-of-8 showing from beyond the arc. The Gauchos fell behind and trailed 29-24 at the half by connecting on just 24.1 percent from the floor, while missing all six attempts from beyond the arc.

The Gauchos responded in the second half by shooting 50 percent from the floor to rally for the victory. The Leathernecks hit on 37 percent in the period and turned in a 3-of-9 effort from the free-throw line.

UC Santa Barbara was helped by scoring advantages from the charity stripe (20-8) and off of turnovers (17-9).
