Recap: Texas-El Paso vs. Charlotte

El Paso, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Terrence Williams and Mike Thorne, Jr. each scored 16 points to lead the Charlotte 49ers past the Texas-El Paso Miners, 73-68, in a Conference USA clash at the Don Haskins Center.

Thorne, Jr. also hauled in 14 rebounds for Charlotte (10-4, 1-0 C-USA), which has won back-to-back games. Pierria Henry added 13 points and seven assists for the visitors, while Willie Clayton netted 10 points.

For UTEP (10-6, 0-1), John Bohannon led all scorers with 23 points while adding eight rebounds and six assists as well. Julian Washburn was also stellar with 19 points.

Charlotte outshot UTEP from the field in the first half, 48 percent to 41.4 percent, as it took a 34-29 lead into intermission.

Both teams improved slightly from the field after halftime, with the 49ers shooting 48.3 percent and UTEP 42.3 percent. Charlotte's lead never swelled to more than nine points, but it also never gave up the advantage.

Charlotte dominated on the glass, outrebounding UTEP by a 41-27 margin.
