Recap: Charlotte vs. North Texas

Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Terrence Williams hit the game-winning layup with a second left in the game to lead the Charlotte 49ers to a last- minute 76-74 comeback victory over the North Texas Mean Green in a Conference USA matchup at Halton Arena.

Williams led the 49ers (12-5, 3-1 C-USA) with 16 points, but it was his layups with 42 seconds and one second remaining that helped his team earn a two-game win streak. Willie Clayton had a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds and reserve Shawn Lester added 11 points. Pierria Henry had a great all-around game by scoring 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor, tallying eight assists, five rebounds, three steals and three blocks.

The high-scorer for the Mean Green (10-8, 1-3) was bench player Brandan Walton, who scored 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. Fellow reserve T.J. Taylor notched 10 points and grabbed six rebounds but could not keep his team from losing their third game in their last four contests. Colin Voss scored 11 and Jordan Williams scored 12 points and nabbed six boards.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair that had five lead changes and several ties. Both teams shot well from the floor in the initial frame, 53.6 percent for the Mean Green and 53.1 percent for the 49ers, but the teams went to the locker room with the 49ers holding a 40-37 lead.

The Mean Green held a 58-47 advantage with over 12 minutes left in the game before the 49ers began their comeback. A 10-0 run brought the margin down to one, but the Mean Green still held a four-point lead with 2:14 remaining after Jordan Williams hit a layup. They would not score the rest of the game, however, allowing Terrence Williams the opportunity to win it.

The contest was an even affair, although the 49ers held a 42-28 advantage in the paint, while the Mean Green held a 37-20 lead in bench scoring.
