Recap: Southern Miss vs. Charlotte

Hattiesburg, MS ( - Jerrold Brooks scored 19 points and connected on 9-of-10 from the free-throw line as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles coasted past the Charlotte 49ers, 81-64, in Conference USA action at Reed Green Coliseum.

Michael Craig netted 14 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for Southern Miss (21-3, 8-1 C-USA). Aaron Brown also chipped in 13 points with five boards in the win, which was the seventh in a row for the Golden Eagles.

Shawn Lester led all scorers in the contest, netting 20 points for Charlotte (14-9, 5-5). Pierria Henry contributed 11 points and Willie Clayton tallied 10 with five rebounds before fouling out. The 49ers have lost two games in a row.

Southern Miss shot 53.6 percent in the first half, including 4-of-10 from 3- point range, and took a large 41-22 lead into the break. Charlotte connected on 42.9 percent of its shot attempts in the frame.

The Golden Eagles dropped their shooting percentage to 45.5 in the second period, but by that point the damage had been done. Southern Miss hit 19-of-28 from the free-throw line in the second. Charlotte shot 41.2 percent from the floor in the half.

Southern Miss won the battle at the free-throw line, 26-9, and had the advantage in rebounding, 37-25. Charlotte had the edge in bench points, 27-23.
