Recap: East Carolina vs. Texas-El Paso

Greenville, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - C.J. Cooper netted 15 points as the Texas-El Paso Miners cruised past the East Carolina Pirates in a low-scoring 58-47 Conference USA contest at Minges Coliseum.

John Bohannon recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and grabbing 14 rebounds for UTEP (17-6, 7-1 C-USA). Julian Washburn scored 14 points on 6- of-14 shooting from the floor. The Miners have won seven consecutive games.

Akeem Richmond led all scorers in the contest with 20 points for East Carolina (12-11, 1-7). Paris Roberts-Campbell chipped in 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting in the loss. The Pirates have dropped seven of their last eight games.

UTEP connected on 48 percent of its first-half field goal attempts, including 3-of-10 from 3-point range, and took a 27-18 lead into the break. East Carolina hit 31.8 percent of its shot tries from the floor in the frame.

The Miners exploded in the second half, netting 56 percent of their shots, which included a sup-par 1-of-7 from 3-point distance. The Pirates only improved to 38.5 percent shooting in the period, but hit 5-of-10 from deep.

UTEP won the battle in points in the paint, 32-14, and had a decisive edge in second chance points, 22-3. East Carolina only pulled down 17 rebounds in the contest compared to UTEP's 42 boards. Combined, the two teams went 6-of-13 from the free-throw line.
